A Memorable Walk
We were the only ones there. It was a beautiful, cold, somewhat
narrow passage and there were dark, beautiful trees
by its side. Now and then, we could hear the monkeys jump over those trees, startling and sometimes even frightening us. Iqbal was telling me stories about the adventures of those monkeys but sadly, their numbers had been reduced over the years due to the brutality of the locals. He also told me about a lion that once came near the school
and the snakes they killed in the early days.
The
architecture of the complex was fine, mostly ordered. We passed the cadet
college, the basketball court, different dining halls and finally the residential
areas of the soldiers. Lastly, just before entering the room, we
glanced down the hills again. There was a small watery area. I told them I would
go hiking, all the way down there. They somewhat laughed, telling me that it
was the Rawal Dam and the lights near it, it was all Islamabad. I couldn’t
believe at first, it seemed so small and nearby.
Pakistan vs Australia was trending there and the team seemed in a
fine position. We then had dinner at the mess, Qeema
and afterwards the mangoes. It all tasted well but I was tired, having a headache. So
I had some Panadol with tea, took rest for a few hours and now, 'it's 12:45 at
night; I can't sleep at all.
